This 6-week workshop combines photography, videography, and podcasting, offering participants the opportunity to explore, create, and gain formal recognition for their skills through Arts Award. Designed for young people aged 13-25, the workshop helps participants develop their creative talents while working towards Arts Award Discover or Explore levels. By the end of the course, participants will have a portfolio of their work and an Arts Award qualification to showcase their achievements.


Week 1: Introduction to Photography and Videography

  • Overview of photography and videography basics, including camera settings, composition, and lighting.
  • Hands-on exercises with DSLR and smartphone cameras to explore different techniques.
  • Outcome: Capture images and short videos, demonstrating an understanding of key principles. Participants will document their learning in their Arts Award portfolio and reflect on the creative process.

Week 2: Photography Skills – Composition & Editing

  • Explore advanced photography techniques like framing, composition, and lighting setups.
  • Introduction to photo editing software (Adobe Lightroom/Photoshop).
  • Outcome: Create and edit a set of images, showcasing diverse composition and editing techniques. Participants will reflect on their creative choices and learning in their Arts Award portfolio.

Week 3: Videography – Filming Techniques & Storytelling

  • Learn the fundamentals of video composition, camera movement, and framing for effective storytelling.
  • Introduction to lighting for video and sound recording techniques.
  • Outcome: Produce a 1-2 minute video, integrating the filming techniques learned. Participants will document their experiences, skills, and creative decisions in their Arts Award portfolio.

Week 4: Podcasting – Recording & Editing

  • Introduction to podcasting: equipment needed (microphones, mixers) and how to set up for recording.
  • How to plan, script, and record an engaging podcast episode.
  • Outcome: Record and edit a short podcast (3-5 minutes), reflecting on the process in the Arts Award portfolio.

Week 5: Advanced Editing – Photography & Videography

  • Advanced editing techniques for photos and videos, including color grading, effects, and sound design.
  • Learn how to create a polished, cohesive final product for both video and podcast projects.
  • Outcome: Finalize the video and podcast projects, demonstrating advanced editing techniques. Participants will reflect on their learning and growth in their Arts Award portfolio.

Week 6: Final Project & Showcase

  • Participants will work on a final project combining photography, videography, and podcasting.
  • One-on-one feedback and support from mentors to ensure high-quality results.
  • Showcase the final projects, with an opportunity to present and discuss the creative process.
  • Outcome: Leave with a completed portfolio showcasing best work, which counts toward their Arts Award qualification. Participants will submit their final reflection for Arts Award moderation.

Outcome:
At the end of this 6-week workshop, participants will have developed practical skills in photography, videography, and podcasting. They will also receive Arts Award Discover or Explore qualification, recognising their achievements, skills, and creative journey. The portfolio developed throughout the workshop will serve as a testament to their hard work, creativity, and growth
